The FCB partners with area school districts, public library systems, and
other public and private agencies to provide innovative professional development
programs designed to complement an institution's existing programs.
One of our most successful models is a workshop that brings together public
children's librarians with their counterparts in the schools for networking,
program planning, and learning together about new books and program
ideas.
Workshops are designed for half-day or full-day meetings, and
feature children's literature experts, education and literacy professionals, and
respected authors and illustrators.
Sample workshop topics include:
- Looking to Learn: Using Picture Books Throughout the Grades and Across the
Curriculum
- Reading the World: Exploring Many Cultures Through Summer Reading
- Celebrating Children's Books: The Elementary School Library in the
Literary Life of the School
- Reaching Reluctant Readers in the Middle Grades
